The white-fronted goose has two populations wintering in the UK - Greenland birds in Ireland and western Scotland, and Russian birds in England - with the Greenland birds showing worrying declines.
Greenland white-fronted goose declines are partly attributable to changing conditions in both Greenland breeding grounds and Irish/Scottish wintering sites. Illegal hunting on migration routes and habitat loss in wintering areas are both contributing factors.
