Wild animals constitute the vast majority of sentient animals on Earth, and understanding the scale and nature of wild animal suffering has important implications for conservation and welfare priorities.
Wild animal suffering is a neglected area of welfare concern. While direct intervention is often impractical, some targeted interventions are possible. Supporting wildlife veterinary care, reducing lead poisoning, and managing wildlife diseases reduce specific welfare impacts. This field requires much more research.
