Emergency treatment of panleukopenia requires intensive supportive care, with welfare maintained through fluid therapy, anti-nausea medication, and nutrition support.
Panleukopenia causes severe welfare suffering - bloody diarrhoea, vomiting, and circulatory collapse. Intensive veterinary care significantly improves survival rates and reduces the duration of suffering. The welfare cost of inadequate treatment is prolonged suffering before inevitable death. Early, aggressive supportive care gives affected cats the best chance of welfare-positive recovery.
