Wild bee populations face severe welfare and survival pressures in landscapes dominated by monoculture agriculture, pesticide use, and habitat fragmentation.
Wild bees are increasingly understood as sentient animals with individual welfare needs — they experience pain responses, make complex decisions, and show signs of pessimistic cognitive states under stress. The welfare of wild bee populations in industrial farming landscapes is collectively poor: pesticide exposure, malnutrition from monofloral diets, and habitat loss combine to cause suffering at enormous scale. Landscape-level changes that restore floral diversity and reduce pesticide pressure are essential.
