Cheetah: Speed Cannot Outrun Habitat Loss

Welfare Considerations

Cheetahs face welfare harm from habitat loss that forces competition with larger predators. Cubs removed for the illegal pet trade die at rates of 70 to 80 percent during trafficking. Farmed animals that survive captivity in Gulf states face lifelong confinement in environments that cannot meet their needs. Climate change is reducing prey availability in already stressed habitats. Inbreeding reduces immune function making wild populations more vulnerable to disease.

Advocate for stronger enforcement against cheetah trafficking in East Africa
