Recognising and responding to neonatal kitten welfare emergencies in the first weeks of life.
Fading kittens experience rapid welfare deterioration through cold, hypoglycaemia, and infection. Welfare emergency response prioritises warmth before nutrition — hypothermic kittens cannot digest food and will aspirate. Warming to normal body temperature, followed by oral glucose and then feeding, restores welfare in recoverable cases. Early identification of non-viable kittens with congenital abnormalities supports timely euthanasia decisions.
