Feline vestibular disease causes sudden onset head tilt, nystagmus, and loss of balance in cats, causing significant distress but often resolving rapidly with supportive care.
Vestibular disease causes acute welfare impacts through disorientation, nausea, inability to balance, and distress. The sudden onset is frightening for cats and owners. During acute episodes, cats may be too disoriented to eat or drink, requiring supportive care. Most cases of idiopathic vestibular disease improve rapidly but the acute phase requires careful nursing to prevent self-injury and ensure adequate nutrition and hydration during recovery.
