Welfare Considerations

FCE welfare management is primarily a rehabilitation challenge. Dogs with good deep pain perception have a favourable prognosis and can regain significant function over weeks to months. Welfare during recovery depends on avoiding pressure sores, maintaining bladder and bowel function, keeping the animal mentally engaged and preventing muscle wasting through passive and active physiotherapy.
