Bacterial skin infection (pyoderma) is one of the most common dermatological conditions in dogs, causing itching, pain, and secondary complications that significantly impact quality of life.
Pyoderma causes itching, pain, and malodour that significantly impairs quality of life. Dogs with deep pyoderma may show pain responses including guarding and reluctance to be touched. Secondary pyoderma on top of underlying allergic disease creates a dual welfare burden. Treatment of the underlying cause is essential to prevent recurrence; antibiotic courses alone are insufficient for long-term resolution. The rise of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius creates treatment challenges and welfare delays for affected dogs.
