Pressure garments such as Thundershirts are commonly used for noise phobia and anxiety in dogs, with mixed but generally positive evidence for their effectiveness as part of a multimodal anxiety management approach.
Anxiety wraps represent a low-risk, potentially helpful tool for dogs with mild to moderate anxiety. The evidence base is mixed but indicates genuine benefit in a meaningful proportion of dogs. Crucially, they do not address underlying causes of anxiety and should not be used as a substitute for veterinary assessment when anxiety is moderate to severe. Dogs that show increased distress when wearing a wrap should have it removed immediately. Used appropriately as part of a comprehensive anxiety management plan that includes behaviour modification and environmental management, they can improve welfare for anxious dogs.
