Current management options for cervical spondylomyelopathy to maximise welfare in affected dogs.
Wobbler syndrome causes chronic welfare compromise through gait instability, proprioceptive deficits, and neck pain. Medical management alone provides welfare relief in mild cases but does not address the underlying compression. Welfare-centred management uses MRI to define the lesion, selects surgery for progressive or severe cases, and monitors rehabilitation carefully. Physiotherapy improves welfare outcomes post-surgery.
