Key Facts

Welfare Considerations

Botulism causes one of the most distressing and rapidly fatal conditions in horses — progressive paralysis while the animal remains conscious is profoundly welfare-compromising. Suspect botulism immediately in any horse with sudden weakness and dysphagia.
