Rabbit dental disease causes chronic pain that is often unrecognised because rabbits hide signs of illness. Changes in hay consumption, wet chin from drooling, or weight loss may be the only visible signs. Prevention through feeding unlimited grass hay as the primary diet is the most effective welfare intervention. Lop rabbits require particularly close monitoring given their compressed skull anatomy predisposing to incisor and molar misalignment from birth.
