The link between stockperson wellbeing and cattle welfare is well-documented — anxious, burned-out, or time-pressured stockpeople handle cattle more roughly and miss welfare indicators that calm, engaged stockpeople detect. This creates a feedback loop where poor working conditions lead to poor animal welfare. Farm assurance schemes that assess stockperson training and working conditions as part of welfare audits address both human and animal welfare simultaneously.
