Welfare Considerations

The Five Domains framework recognises that cattle welfare includes both the absence of suffering and the presence of positive experiences. A cow that is not in pain but has no positive experiences is not in ideal welfare. The framework encourages assessment of opportunities for positive states including comfort, play, social bonding, and exploration alongside traditional welfare indicators.
