Roe deer are native to Britain and widespread across Scotland and much of England, living as solitary territorial animals in woodland and increasingly colonising suburban gardens.
Roe deer in garden and suburban settings face multiple welfare challenges including dog attacks, vehicle collisions, and entanglement in garden netting. Garden netting left on the ground can fatally trap deer and should always be secured. Orphaned fawns found alone are usually not abandoned and should not be removed.
