Modern zoo facilities with complex naturalistic enclosures, prey enrichment, and social management provide substantially better welfare outcomes. Conservation breeding programmes must balance genetic management with individual animal welfare, recognising that tigers in poor conditions do not contribute positively to conservation goals.
