The Temminck stint is one of the rarest breeding waders in Britain, with only sporadic nesting attempts recorded, mainly in Scottish Highland river valleys.
As an extreme rarity, any disturbance during breeding is potentially catastrophic. Gravel extraction and river engineering destroy the bare gravelly habitats used for nesting. Careful wardening of known sites is essential.
