Urban foxes are frequently the target of pest control operations including snaring. Snares can capture non-target animals including cats and dogs, and cause prolonged suffering when not checked regularly as required by law.
Snared animals that are not found during regular checks can suffer for up to 24 hours or more. Non-target animals including pet cats may be snared and die before owners realise they are missing. Snares that tighten cause limb loss, strangulation, and internal injuries. The welfare argument for snare abolition is supported by veterinary organisations including the British Veterinary Association.
