Welfare Considerations

Mink predation is catastrophic for water vole welfare — entire colonies are wiped out rapidly, with animals killed in their burrows. Welfare priorities include intensive mink control in areas where reintroduction is planned, restoration of rush and sedge bank vegetation, and translocation of individuals from strong populations to restored sites.
